We have two rabbits, Peanut and Cashew, and two guinea pigs, Sprout and Bean. I think guinea pigs are a more familiar pet (but they are wonderful creatures). Rabbits, at least to me, were entirely new. They are astonishingly complex animals with rich inner lives, and I had no idea how deeply their emotional worlds extended. They are often mischievous and aggravating, sometimes sweet, always strange, and always delightful. They are very different than other animals and require their own care, but I do think they are marvelous little floppers. If you are interested in getting rabbits you can always send me questions, because there is quite a lot to learn.

Peanut, a holland lop with brown fur, is sleeping in a litterbox with her head propped up on the side.
Cashew, a holland lop with brown fur, is looking innocently at the camera in the middle of a haypile vortex she created.
